Camaraderie is… … associating with others who understand what deployments are like. … joining with brothers- and sisters-in-arms to make our communities better. … being a part of something greater than yourself. … sharing a feeling of pride in belonging to an organization that has the best troop and home-front support programs. … knowing that you’re part of a veteran service organization that has been at the forefront of securing real benefits for veterans, like the 21st Century GI Bill. … connecting with others who respect your military service and the sacrifices you, your family and friends have made for this country. … relaxing with friends you’ve worked with to make a difference. VFW was founded by veterans of overseas conflicts, and it remains a place for war-fighters of all generations. VFW members are a select group of individuals who have answered their country’s call in times of need. Few organizations show the level of diversity that VFW does. Most members are affiliated with a VFW Post. Some Posts are made up primarily of veterans from one conflict, and others include vets of all generations. And while many Posts have a distinctive Post home, others meet at various locations in their communities. Each Post has its own character and focus. To find out about Posts in your community, use our Post Locator. Some members choose to remain members-at-large. Members-at-large do not belong to a Post, but their membership card gains them access to VFW’s 7800 Posts around the world, as well as VFW Magazine. As a member-at-large, you stay connected to a network of veterans and programs that you can take pride in. And when you do find a Post that you would like to call home, they will be happy to take you in. |
